The National Release New Song ‘Eucalyptus’ – Rolling Stone

The National dropped another new song, “Eucalyptus,” from their upcoming album. First two pages of Frankensteinwill be released on April 28th via 4AD.

The track came about somewhat unexpectedly while the band was preparing for a show at the Capitol Theater in Port Chester, New York. Bryce Dessner sent the instrumental to frontman Matt Berninger, so long ago he forgot about it. Before the gig, however, Berninger said he had written the lyrics and asked during soundcheck if he could run them.

“We rehearsed twice without a demo and played it to an audience that night. What we heard on the album was partially recorded during that performance,” says Berninger. “There’s this raw, immediate feel. It makes sense to leave the rough edges behind instead of trying to perfect them.”

Regarding the lyrics of “Eucalyptus,” Berninger adds: “Eucalyptus” is about a estranged couple dividing their property. It’s about all the little things you have to think about when you connect deeply with someone. ”

“Eucalyptus” also comes with a music video directed by Chris Sgroi. The clip captures Aaron Dessner’s performance of the famous Long His Pound song filmed in his studio.

“Eucalyptus” is the third song shared by National. First two pages of FrankensteinFollowing “Tropic Morning News” and “New Order T-Shirt”, this album is a continuation of the group’s 2019 effort, i’m easy to find, and features contributions from Taylor Swift, Phoebe Bridgers, and Sufjan Stevens. Following the album’s release, The National embarked on an extensive North American tour, beginning May 20th in Chicago and ending August 18th in New York City.
