Actors insult Bach, Beethoven and more in Alexei Igudesman’s symphony-comedy hybrid show
If you think blogging is too harsh, wait until you see John Malkovich in Alexei Igudesman’s Theater Spectacle music critic. The symphonic-comedy hybrid show, featuring actors performing Bach, Mozart, Beethoven and more, is scheduled to tour in fall 2023.
“of music critic, writer and composer Alexei Igudesman fuses the sarcastic, candid humor characteristic of actor John Malkovich with the slapstick and outrageous madness of renowned comic duo Igudesman & Joo. ” the press release said. “Igudesman, who will be on tour with long-time collaborator pianist Choo Hyunggi, is determined to take revenge on a most brilliant piece of music that was lashed out and denounced by critics at its premiere.”
Igudesmann and Zhu are joined by fellow musicians cellist Antonio Lisi and violinists Huang Xinyun and Claire Wells. As the audience listens to the group play some of the most famous pieces in the classical music canon, Malkovich gleefully delivers “frivolous potpourri of musical insults.” But what’s so great about Debussy?
The nine announced dates will begin in Seattle this October and will tour Los Angeles, Dallas, San Antonio, Austin, Detroit, Chicago and New York City, culminating in Portland, Oregon on June 12, 2024.
