I recently had the wonderful opportunity to speak with local guitarist, songwriter, rock ‘n’ roll artist and spunky guy, Earl Saunders. Here are some of his stories and many more reasons to catch the next show on The Swaggerlies.
Lynnwood resident Earle Thunders has been making rock and roll music for a long time. Growing up in the area, he started playing guitar at age 14 and started taking the instrument seriously at age 21. The main reason he played the guitar was because he wrote music. He was drawn to his songwriting and lyrics and wanted to put his words into music. He’s now used that talent to wow audiences for the past 30 years, and he still finds it challenging and fun.
A small subset of musicians who write their own music. It takes a completely different set of skills for him to compose and perform original music and create followers. Earl did all of this. He spent most of his music career playing original songs, dipping his toes in a cover band to clear his head a bit before jumping in and starting writing again. The music he creates is very much guitar-based rock and roll. Loud, fast and fun to listen to.
Earl has traveled and played some great shows in his career. Earle’s musical career highlights include playing at The Gorge (three times!), his legendary Roxy in LA, and his recording with Joe Reineke in Seattle.
The Swaggerlies formed in 2018. Earle, his bassist Jeromy Leonard, and the late guitarist Ron Heathman worked on his songs for the MusiCare compilation Christmas and found it so much fun to play and write together that the band was formed. . The Swaggerlies band has a light rock ‘n’ roll vibe, influenced by bands like Motorhead and his ACDC as well as his classic garage rock.
If you’ve been wondering what this sounds like and can’t wait to see it live, check out The Swaggerlies’ latest album due out at the end of 2021. The next release will probably be an EP with 4-5 songs. Due to the high demand for The Swaggerlies, it’s difficult to pinpoint a release date at this time. Looking at their calendar, they have Portland, Wenatchee, Mount Vernon, Idaho, Montana, and some local shows worth checking out. when they played with Reverend Horton Heat at a Seattle funhouse.
It’s definitely worth watching this rowdy crew for a proper rock ‘n’ roll fix.

Edmonds local singer-songwriter BecLynn will premiere her newest song at Salish Sea Brewing’s Boathouse location.
We have a great lineup for the Edmonds Center for the Arts this month. My musical recommendation is Colin Hay (original frontman of Men at Work) who plays at ECA. Click here for tickets.
Local crooner John Pinetree and North City Bistro’s Yellin DeGenerates. It’s a cozy space where you can enjoy wonderful food and alcohol, and it’s perfect for a date. Please purchase your ticket in advance.
April 29th (Sat): Two choices for music
Local favorite One Love Bridge featuring Alan Hardwick, Rico Valenzuela, Mark Pendolino and Gary Sperling will perform at 192 Brewing in the Kenmore area. A fun open space venue with plenty of space to dance and enjoy their upbeat music. Click here for the latest information on OLB shows.
Darrell’s Tavern, a local venue in Shoreline, offers a variety of music each month. Check the calendar for the latest information. For those interested in the open mic, it takes place every Wednesday at 7:30 PM. My pick for April is Stacey Jones His Band on Saturday April 29th. Award-winning singer Stacey Jones plays his rock and blues with different roots. and Americana.
