British indie pop band The Clientele have announced their next album. I’m not there anymore Scheduled to be released on July 28th. The announcement also includes the release of the group’s latest single, “Blue Over Blue,” as well as a music video. The album follows the group’s last release, his 2017 Studio His album. Music of the Age of Miracles, following a previous seven-year musical hiatus. Lead vocalist and lyricist Alasdair McLean, who began the recording process as early as 2019-2022, describes the upcoming album as “a leap forward and a leap to the side.”
McLean describes the group’s overall sound as follows:The feeling of not being there, what was really in every customer’s record is the feeling of not actually living in the moment your body is in. The combination of strings provides a perfect representation of dreamy extracorporeal haze to create an atmospheric listening experience.
The new single gives listeners an insight into a universe where they can find themselves completely engulfed, and McLean intends the latest album to evoke “a sense of not being real.” Drawing inspiration from when his mother died in the summer of 1997, the album serves as a sense of nostalgia, loss, and childhood rather than a retelling of the event. This 19-track story, as McLean explains, “It’s a childhood memory, but at the same time it’s impossible to truly remember your childhood, or even know who you are.”
The album is currently available through BandCamp and Merge Records. Also, the band will headline his Summer tour, which he will start on 28th July at Rough His Trade East in London, UK. It then continued for the rest of the US tour, ending on August 23rd at the Tractor Tavern in Seattle, Washington.
