London street punk stompers The Chisel release debut album Retaliation 2021 has been busy ever since. Last year they teamed up with Mexico’s Oibando Mess for a split 7-inch. This year they contributed the song “Punisher” to the hardcore compilation. Annihilation Vol. 4And they tour hard. I saw them put on a great show at End It in Richmond.Chisel is now under contract with Pure Noise and has been reissued Retaliationand dropped a new paid single.
The Chisel’s new song “Cry Your Eyes Out” isn’t as sensitive as its title might suggest. Instead, the film is directed at the kind of asshole who couldn’t appreciate her wife and who should have realized how sad she would be when she was gone. The overall sound of the band is still fast, direct and very catchy. “Cry Your Eyes Out” has a raw, grainy video that reveals Chubby and the Gang leader and guitarist Charlie Manning sporting a very striking walrus mustache. Frontman Callum Graham said in a press release:
“Cry Your Eyes Out” was co-written in our old practice room and it was the first song we wrote after joining the company. Retaliation had been released. Musically, we wanted to build on more expansive moments. Retaliation. The verses are driven by a simple old-school rock’n’roll style riff, while the chorus gives way to dual leads and multi-layered guitars to create a thick, melodic sound. The references I used while writing this article were The Replacements, The Ramones, and Leatherface. Lyrically, it’s about treating your loved ones with respect and never taking them for granted because at any moment everything could come crashing down like a stack of cards.
