New York via Rochester-based band Taking Meds have been around for a decade, honing their brusque yet wistful takes on Venn diagram places where emo and pop-punk overlap.The band released their latest album Horrible news from a wonderful man The band is currently gearing up for a tour, sharing the stage with peers such as Ridgeway and Somerset Thrower. Ahead of that tour, they just dropped a new single.
Take Meds recorded “Memory Lane” with Kurt Ballou of Converge. Horrible news from a wonderful manWarm, tuneful, fuzzed-up rocker with plenty of jawbreaker and lemonheads DNA. In a press release, frontman Skylar Serkis said of the new song:
I like to retreat into fantasy when I’m frustrated with reality. Because fantasy doesn’t need to consider the negative side. My current favorite is to move to the mountains and never speak to anyone again. But the most common for me is always nostalgia. This song is pretty much about it. Musically, it’s pretty new territory for us. I wanted to write a big chorus and a big lead because that’s what I want to hear right now. Everyone calls us a rock band because no one has ever agreed to categorize our music. Now they can finally get it right. you’re welcome.
