A man was arrested Sunday and charged with murder after surveillance video showed he opened fire on a spring break crowd in Miami Beach and repeatedly shot victims who were already on the ground.
Fort Lauderdale’s Dontavious Leonard Polk, 24, has been charged with first-degree murder in a shooting that occurred near 11th Street and Ocean Drive around 3 a.m., according to the arrest report. This was his second mass shooting over the weekend, as large numbers of tourists flocked to Miami Beach for spring break.
Police said Polk was walking with three other men along a 1,000-block sidewalk on Ocean Drive when he slowly approached the victim, took out a gun from his hip, and fired several times, causing him to fall to the ground. rice field.

Miami Beach police officers pursued Polk on foot until Polk was eventually tackled by officers and arrested.
Officers recovered Polk’s firearm and bullet casings from the crime scene.
Less than 48 hours later, another shooting occurred in South Beach, killing one person and wounding another.
Those deadly shootings prompted Miami Beach officials to declare a state of emergency and impose a curfew from 11:59 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday.
