Savannah, GA (WSAV) — With Dr. Ann Levett stepping down on June 30, board members of the SCCPSS and search firm BWP Associates narrowed down a list of potential candidates and, over the next few weeks, They are the final decision.
On Tuesday, board members held their first in-person interview session at the Hyatt Regency on Bay Street. The meeting was closed to the public due to personnel issues. According to SCCPSS, 49 applicants have completed the application process. In March, SCCPSS conducted a survey to hear from the community what they hoped for in the next superintendent. Of that survey, more than 3,000 people responded, 15% of whom were students.
Respondents said that the top three skills new superintendents should have are the ability to work with administrators, teachers, and support personnel, the ability to advocate for public education, and the ability to work with diverse communities. You showed what you felt.
Respondents also indicated that the most important qualities required of incoming Superintendents are to be good listeners and communicators, trustworthy, approachable and transparent.
The interview continues Wednesday morning. We have reached out to several board members for comment and are still awaiting a response. The new director will start on July 1st.
