It’s been four years since Stolen Jars released his last LP. reminder, they’re already teasing four new singles in 2023 alone.A bigger project is on the horizon, and today the Brooklyn indie pop duo announced I Want Let Me Downa nine-track documentary in which Cody Fitzgerald and Sarah Coffey come together from various romantic places to tell an introspective and honest story of love, hurt and fear. Co-produced by Greta Kline of Frankie Cosmos.
New single “Reality TV” is an indie gem, but a guitar-focused pop track with enough synths to dominate the Billboard Hot 100. It’s a song that lives in the space between new and old relationships. Through sophisticated, glittering drumrolls and metronome riffs, Stolen Jars crafts hook-heavy, brilliantly worrying snippets as Fitzgerald struggles with his fear of falling in love with someone new. “Afraid to hold someone / Are you in love? You’re not / ‘Cause if you run I won’t fall / Will you come back? You’re not,” he sings . The title says it all, as Fitzgerald was inspired by a particular giant of his CBS reality show. “Instead, I subconsciously watch Love Island to distract myself from my emotions,” he explains.
I Want Let Me Down will be released on August 4th. Music for “Reality TV” directed by Haoyan of America Watch his video and check out the album artwork and track listing below.
