Waterloo — Staebler Insurance will donate $100,000 to the Laurier School of Music’s Music Creation Campaign to celebrate the company’s 150th anniversary in 2023.
“Staebler Insurance has been a valued partner and generous supporter of Laurier students,” said Jason Kuhlman, vice president of promotion and external relations at Laurier. “Just as Staebler Insurance has made a difference in this community over his 150 years, this gift will make a difference in the lives of Laurier music students for decades to come.”
This gift acknowledges by naming the Stabler Insurance Box Office located in the new Thavas-Chamberlain Music Building.

Staebler Insurance also sponsors the Staebler Insurance Music Award, established in 1991 by Staebler Insurance former chairman Stephen Philpott (BBA ’82) to honor the Staebler family and their passion for music.
Founder JM Stabler co-founded the Berlin Piano and Organ Company in 1890. His son, HL Stabler, was president of the local music club and through his efforts as chairman of the public school board, music instruction became part of the regular school curriculum in the area. . HL’s son, Keith Stabler, was an accomplished jazz pianist and helped found Center in the Square. This award is given annually to outstanding full-time piano students in the Honors Music Program. It has won 39 awards so far. Total prize money awarded is $37,366.42.

The “Making Space for Music” campaign aims to raise $15 million for the renovation and expansion of Laurier’s Music Department building. The building is now named the “Zavas Chamberlain Music Wing” after his innovative $4 million gift from longtime Laurier supporter Zavus Chamberlain. The campaign will transform buildings and surrounding areas into improved spaces for education, practice, rehearsal and performance. A superb new campus entrance, lobby and practice rooms will increase opportunities for music students to develop their skills and for the general public to enjoy and participate in the Faculty of Music’s programs.
The renovation work is expected to be completed in early 2024.
