When it comes to sound quality, many audiophiles claim that Spotify is inferior to Apple Music. Spotify’s inferior sound quality is further accentuated when it comes to spatial audio using Dolby Atmos and Lossless audio, two of his features that Apple Music offers users.
Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos: Spatial Audio is a new feature introduced by Apple Music that simulates a surround sound experience, allowing users to experience music in a 3D environment. His Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos takes the immersion even further by providing spatial sound effects that make music sound more realistic and dynamic. Spotify, on the other hand, does not currently offer spatial audio using Dolby Atmos. This means that Spotify users will not be able to enjoy the full immersive experience currently available on Apple Music.
Lossless audio: Apple Music Lossless allows users to stream high-quality music without compressing or losing data. Lossless audio has higher fidelity than compressed audio, resulting in a more accurate and detailed sound. Apple Music offers two levels of lossless audio: CD-quality 16-bit/44.1 kHz and Hi-Res 24-bit/192 kHz. Spotify, on the other hand, currently does not offer lossless audio. Spotify offers a high-quality streaming option at 320 kbps, but this is still a lossy format that compresses the audio data, resulting in lower sound quality than lossless audio.
In a head-to-head comparison of the same track, Spotify’s sound quality is noticeably worse than Apple Music’s, especially when it comes to spatial and lossless audio with Dolby Atmos. Spatial Audio in Apple Music provides a fully immersive 3D sound experience not currently available on Spotify. Plus, Apple Music’s Lossless audio offers higher fidelity and accuracy than Spotify’s highest-quality streaming options.
Apple Music offers a 3-month free trial period, after which users can choose between a $9.99/month individual plan or a $14.99/month family plan (which can be shared by up to 6 people). Plus, students can sign up for Apple Music for just $4.99 per month. Apple Music is also part of Apple’s “Apple One” subscription bundles, which further reduce the price of the Apple Music streaming service. Click here for details on the Apple One.
Spotify also offers a free trial period, but it’s only for one month. After the trial period ends, users can choose between the Individual plan for $9.99/month or the Family plan (which can be shared by up to 6 people) for $14.99/month. Students can sign up for Spotify for just $4.99 per month. This is the same as Apple Music’s student pricing.
MacDailyNews takes: No savvy consumer would pay the same amount or more for a music streaming service with significantly lower sound quality. Those who value high-quality audio will prefer Apple Music to Spotify.
