Spotify has launched Niche Mixes, a new set of personalized playlists that combine familiar songs and new recommendations into oddly specific categories. Niche Mixes is an extension of the music platform’s existing Spotify Mixes playlist functionality (such as Mood Mixes and Decades Mixes), allowing you to more accurately shape your listening habits.
Some examples of what Spotify has to offer are self-explanatory, like the Feel Good Morning Mix (filled with songs with a positive vibe) and the ’80s Running Mix, which provides a retro soundtrack to your workout. There’s also a new Night Time mix for tunes to ‘sit back and relax’ and a Driving Singalong mix for personalized in-car karaoke.
Personalized Spotify Mixes combine familiar music and new recommendations into specific listening categories
In a blog post announcing Niche Mix, Spotify said: Enjoy the moment. For those who are too lazy to categorize their musical tastes into playlists, we are too lazy to use algorithms to create category-specific mixes of songs and artists you like and have heard. It is a convenient function for people.
You can also manually search for something specific by tapping “Activity, Atmosphere, or Aesthetics” next to the word “Mix” and see what you get, like “Baking Mix” or “Angry Teenager Mix.” You can also check if It doesn’t generate search term-specific playlists, but it does give you a variety of options. Alternatively, you can simply search for “mixes” and filter by playlist to see more available. If you need inspiration, check out the Every Noise at Once category, an ongoing project mapping Spotify’s ever-growing list of genres and subgenres.
Spotify mixes can only be discovered by searching in English and are available worldwide for free and premium Spotify users. A selection of Spotify’s curated mixes can be found in the ‘Made For You’ hub within the search tab of Spotify’s web player, desktop and mobile apps. Each mix is updated daily to keep you up to date and adapt to any new music you touch.
The thing to note is that it’s not entirely clear Which Spotify Mix is new for this particular announcement. Personalized playlists that I claim are “niche”, including “Goblincore,” “Anti Anxiety Dogs,” and “Angry Tuna,” have been available in the platform’s Made For You section for months. , I’ve been listening to their music for weeks since a video showcasing this feature appeared on my TikTok feed. We’ve reached out to Spotify to clarify how (or if) these differ from what was announced today and will update this story when we hear back.
