The app will be re-released as Spotify Greenroom in June 2021, packed with real-time audio shows on various topics like sports, lifestyle, entertainment and more. Last April, interest in live audio began to wane, and Spotify rebranded his Greenroom to Spotify Live. After another year, the Spotify Live app will be shut down.
In a conversation with Music Ally, a representative for the streaming service explained that Spotify Live is just an “experiment period” to see how listeners interact with the new form of media. While the concept wasn’t very mature, Spotify said it would continue to explore concepts such as “listening parties” that allow for live dialogue between fans and artists.
$67 million in just two years of operation seems like a lot for the lessons Spotify learned from this experiment. But it will be interesting to see how the service blends the existing features of the main app, such as podcasts, with some modes of real-time interaction borrowed from Live. However, according to Music Ally, some shows from the discontinued app may continue as non-live podcasts on the main app.
Finally, we confirmed that the clubhouse still exists, even if it’s no longer a tech town topic. has probably gained a small following. However, today most of the best streaming apps limit their live content to radio instead of encouraging interaction between participants.
