Music app Spotify has removed its entire catalog of Hindi film scores from Zee Music Company after negotiations to renew its licensing agreement broke down.
Among the many songs that were removed were BediyahIt has been the number one track on Spotify in India for the past two weeks. This follows Zee Music’s move last year not to renew its licensing deal with music app Gaana, after which the app became a subscription-only service months later.
Spotify users and Bollywood song fans have shared their frustrations over this on social media, with some threatening to cancel their paid subscriptions.
reported that billboarda statement from the music app team said, “Spotify and Zee Music were unable to reach a licensing agreement. We will continue negotiations in good faith in the hope that a mutually agreeable solution will be found soon.”
More than 20 tracks on Spotify’s India Daily Top 200 Songs chart belong to Zee Music, and these tracks will not be available until the two companies enter into a new deal.
Tracks not currently available on Spotify include Wraith (2017), from “Mahuna” drive (2019), from Maiyamainu jersey (2022).album of Vere di Wedding (2018), gully boy (2019), Pal Pal Dil Que Pas (2019) and Calanques (2019) is also not available.
