Spotify is one of the world’s largest and most popular music streaming platforms. Also, users can listen to various artists and podcasts.
One of the best things about this streaming app is that it regularly receives updates and new features that make it more user-friendly and easier to use.
However, the platform is full of various bugs and issues, and you can check the same on the dedicated Spotify bug tracker.
Wrong podcast episode playing from search on Spotify
That said, some Spotify users have reported issues on the community forums about the platform not playing podcast episodes from the search box. Playing something that isn’t even selected is pretty abrupt.
[iOS] Wrong podcast episode played from search
We’ve received multiple reports that playing a podcast episode from the search bar plays a different episode instead of the one you selected. This is happening on an iOS device.

Reportedly, this issue only affects iOS users, and it consistently fails to play selected podcast episodes.
One of those affected claims that Spotify will always start playing the latest podcast episode. Older episodes of the podcast won’t play at all, no matter how many times I try.
Some users have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app, but it didn’t seem to help. Logging into and out of your Spotify account does not resolve the issue.
Problem Recognized
Luckily, the issue of Spotify playing the wrong podcast episode from the search bar has been acknowledged. This bug is currently under investigation, but an ETA for the fix is not yet available.
I also found a workaround that might temporarily fix this bug. You can check it below.
We hope that Spotify will quickly find the root cause of the issue and fix it within a few days so that users can use the application normally. When we do, we will update this space to let you know.
