Spotify debuts its TikTok-style music discovery feed

Vertical TikTok-style video feeds have been making their way into many of the apps we use on a daily basis, and we’ve officially added another one. After announcing beta testing last year, Spotify will begin rolling out a new design for the home section of its mobile app with a “more visual and dynamic” look. It’s built for deeper discovery and more meaningful connections.”

In the music, podcasts and audiobooks section, you can also “intentionally scroll” through a new feed where Spotify offers audio and video clips for preview. If you find something you want to listen to in its entirety, you have the option to save, share, and preview multiple songs (playlists or albums), read episode transcripts, and watch video podcasts. These visual feeds also appear in the search interface, where you can scroll through clips arranged by genre. Additionally, Spotify says it will add visual content to select playlists such as Discover Weekly, Release Radar, New Music Friday and Rap Caviar. The company sees this as a way to give you a preview of the songs in these collections before you play them. I haven’t added a fourth button to the navigation bar of .

[音楽]On the tab, US and Canadian users will see Spotify’s AI DJ right below a collection of eight personalized shortcuts. Once you start scrolling, the app will give you audio and visual snippets of the song (you can listen muted if you want). From here, you can tap cards to preview up to five different songs from an album or playlist. This is the same as for Instagram Stories. Spotify also provides some brief context as to why you’re seeing these recommendations.

The Podcasts section shows these eight shortcuts at the top, while the rest of the feed previews your selected show. Each recommendation includes audio samples and real-time transcriptions, or video clips if the show was recorded in that format. If you want to continue listening, you can choose to pick up from the previewed part or start from the beginning. Spotify says the Audiobook feed works just like his podcast previews.

Spotify is also renaming an enhancement tool that debuted in 2021. The feature, now called Smart Shuffle, not only adds suggestions to a playlist that “matches the vibe perfectly”, but also mixes up the order. Double tap the shuffle icon to enable. Once complete, you’ll see a shuffle icon with a star in the top left and the track added by the suggestion will be highlighted in the list. You can quickly remove all of the app’s recommendations by tapping the smart shuffle button again to return your playlists to your carefully crafted collection.

Finally, the company is adding podcast autoplay to the app. Just like with music, Spotify can automatically start another related episode based on what you were listening to. And just like with music, the company offers the ability to turn off autoplay, so you can enjoy the silence when the podcast ends.

Spotify says some of these new features will be available starting today, while others will roll out in the coming months.
