Shreveport, Louisiana (KSLA) – Nine people, including the shooter, were killed and seven injured in a shooting at an Allen, Texas outlet mall on Saturday, May 6.
A Shreveport minister and his wife were shopping with their daughter and granddaughter when the bullets started flying.
Pastor Leroy Ealy, who has been with Bryant Temple Christ in God Church for 17 years, said he believed God kept them safe that day. His wife, Jo Ann, said the couple wanted to get away from Shreveport for the night and she was visiting her daughter at the time. They visited the outlet mall as usual and suddenly heard gunshots. The Iriss said they initially thought the shooter was a police officer because he was wearing a dark bulletproof vest. When he pulled out his gun and got out of the car, they realized something was wrong. That’s when he first fired into the sky.
Jo Ann says they started running, but she fell. Leroy managed to hide behind the SUV, but when the shooter turned in the opposite direction and started firing at the others, she returned for Jo Ann.
“The bullets were just coming around us. I didn’t hear anything,” Jo Ann said.
The couple say they were eventually able to escape and hide in a few restrooms until it was safe to exit.
At one point, Leroy says he made eye contact with the shooter before he fully realized what was going on.
“I am grateful to God for saving our lives. I know it must have been an act of God because such a bullet should have hit one of us.” “But my heart goes out to the families of the missing and tragic victims, as well as the families of the victims and the shooter.” As such, we are in constant prayer for these individuals.”
