Award-winning dancer and choreographer Seeta Patel has announced the venues and dates for Stravinsky’s iconic The Rite of Spring, the first full-scale touring production of her eponymous dance company. , with the acclaimed Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra conducted by Kirill Karabits.
This extensive staging at three venues across the north and south of England follows the well-received show at Sadler’s Wells earlier this year.
Joining the tour’s ten-strong dance line-up is BBC Young Dancers 2022 winner and rising star Adhya Shastri. The ensemble includes three dancers from the UK and the rest from around the world, including the Netherlands, Malaysia and India.
Although usually seen as a solo dance form, Seeta Patel Dance’s Rite of Spring is a rare opportunity for audiences to see contemporary Bharatanatyam performed in an ensemble. It also subverts the original narrative of the Chosen One as a sacrifice by elevating this character to a god to whom the entire community sacrifices itself.
