Weiland’s first solo album was released 25 years ago

Scott Weiland’s solo debut, 12 Bar Blues, celebrated its 25th anniversary on March 31st. Rhino is celebrating by remastering the acclaimed album and extending it for his next two releases.
On Record Store Day, the album will debut on vinyl as a limited edition 2LP set. “12 Bar Blues” is limited to 7,500 copies of his on 180-gram translucent blue and green vinyl, and he’ll be available exclusively at select independent music retailers for $34.98 on April 22nd. . The set includes the original of his album with newly remastered audio, as well as his three unreleased recordings of the acoustic version of “Barbarella” and his session outtakes “Lazy Dive” and “Chateau Mars”. Contains a recording of the presentation. Two of his later songs were included in the original promotional his version of the album sent by Atlantic Records, but were cut on the commercial release.
On May 12th, a deluxe version of “12 Bar Blues” with additional unreleased songs will be digitally distributed. Includes newly remastered originals of his albums, unreleased tracks from his vinyl releases, plus five of his unreleased recordings. Best known as the singer of the Grammy Award-winning bands Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, Weiland turned listeners into sonic jets with her adventurous 1998 solo debut, “12 Bar Blues” on Atlantic Records. I put it on a coaster.
Weiland co-produced the album with Blair Lamb and played many instruments on the record, including guitar, bass, keyboards and drum loops. He was also responsible for designing his concept for the album, a tribute to legendary jazz saxophonist John Coltrane’s 1958 album Blue Train.
Victor Indrizzo, Xander Schloss and Jeff Nolan from The Magnificent Bastards (a group Weiland formed in 1995) are featured throughout the album. In addition, multiple Grammy winner Sheryl Crow plays accordion on “Lady, Your Roof Brings Me Down,” and jazz pianist Brad Mehldau on “Divider” and “Mockingbird Girl.” An artist made a guest appearance on “12 Bar Blues”. Noted musician/producer Daniel Lanois played on “Despair #5” and “Barbarella” and also mixed several tracks on his original album. His trio of unreleased mixes, including ‘Cool Kiss’, debut on ’12 Bar Blues (Deluxe Edition)’ alongside ‘Desperation #5’ and the aforementioned ‘Barbarella’ demo.
