Saxophonist Michael Lington to Release 5-Song EP “Looking Ahead”

May 12, Michael Linton will release Future prospectsis a collection of new original songs since 2018’s critically acclaimed album Silver Lining. The hit-making saxophonist has already charted two of his singles, “Play” from his upcoming five-track EP and the recently released “Moon Goddess.” He will support Looking Ahead on an extensive cross-country tour and several international dates, including his two nights in London. Looking Ahead reflects how everything in Linton’s life, including music, has changed in finding his soulmate, underpinned by a newfound sense of balance and purpose. He married his wife, Keri, and became a family man, a devoted stepfather to her young daughter Lauren, and a first-time father (50!) with the birth of her now three-year-old son Landon. After calling Los Angeles his home for 32 years, the Danish-born artist moved to San Diego County. With all these dynamic changes in his life, it’s no wonder that one of contemporary jazz’s most exhilarating artists is a whole new person: “Michael Linton 2.0.”

lead single “play” A funky, spirited summer jam that marks the first time working with longtime friend and fellow horn master Darren Rahn. Offering an optimistic way to keep the tide of joy and hope in turbulent times, the groove-filled atmosphere is complemented by the ferocious guitar fires of Paul Jackson Jr. and bassist Mel Brown and drummers. It features Tarrell Martin’s non-stop groove.

Jackson’s infectious jungle-funk intro and subsequent solo are highlights from Linton’s latest single. “Moon Goddess” A tribute to Ramsay Lewis’s “Goddess of the Sun”. A hard-grooving, explosive, and emotionally empowering track, it marks the first time Linton co-wrote and co-produced with renowned saxophonist, producer and horn his arranger David His Mann. , presents an intuitive and dynamic song. It’s also his Lington’s first session with veteran jazz/R&B drummer Michael White, with a freewheeling, soulful energy reminiscent of his classic CTI Records releases. At the heartfelt and emotional core of “Looking Ahead” is a sumptuous, classically-styled urban set written for Linton’s wife and performed for her on her wedding day in August 2021.
