Rick Faris, currently the International Bluegrass Music Association’s New Artist of the Year, will be giving a free concert in Owensboro this Saturday. Faris will be playing the main stage at ROMP Festival later this month, a free concert to coincide with the release of his new album.
The concert begins at 7pm at the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame & Museum. No tickets are required for the album release event. Hall of Fame Lobby Bar opens.doors open at 6pm
Faris began performing at an early age with his four siblings and parents who make up the award-winning Faris Family Bluegrass Band. After his family stopped touring, Rick was looking for a new full-time gig and landed on a band called Special Consensus. With the band he played mandolin and guitar for 11 years, a Grammy Award for which he was nominated twice, and an IBMA Award for which he won five times.
Faris then signed to his current label, Dark Shadow Recording, as a solo artist in September 2018. Rick started writing songs and picking the right people to handle everything. With a perfect harmony singer and a phenomenal picker, Rick set out to show the world what his brand of bluegrass sound could be like.
Saturday’s concert will celebrate the release of Faris’ third album, Uncommon Sky, on the Dark Shadows label.
In addition to the free concert, Faris will also be selling copies of his new project in the lobby of the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame and Museum. He will meet with fans and sign copies of the new release.
Hall of Fame Executive Director Chris Joslin said, “We’re so focused on live music that all we can think about right now is the ROMP festival later this month. After all, Owensboro is the bluegrass music capital of the world, where else would a rising star in the industry want to host an album release event?”
