One aspect of the character that Magino really resonated with was Paul’s interest in maintaining his physical fitness, even though the show initially hid his figure.
“There are many men who use their size and physicality to hide what is going on inside. , maybe it’s a reflection of confidence,” Maginot says, “Paul isn’t the most confident guy to begin with. If you grew up in an Asian-American community, people tend to judge that, so at least he has the strength, but of course when it comes to EQ, he’s still developing. I really recognized many elements of myself growing up in the sense that if I hadn’t grown up, I would have been Paul.”
