About Rick Faris:
Faris has been playing bluegrass music since he learned to speak. His first break came when bluegrass mogul Greg Cahill called and asked him to audition for Special Consensus. The job was transformative for Faris, as Greg hired him to play the mandolin rather than the guitar he had honed since childhood. With five weeks left to learn the mandolin and win an audition, Rick Farris embarked on the next stage of his career. After one Grammy nomination and two IBMA nominations in six years, he returned to guitar and the band earned three more IBMA Awards and a second Grammy nomination. Rick spent a total of 11 years on his globe-trotting Special Consensus. Under Greg Cahill, he learned the meaning of professionalism and contribution to the bluegrass community.
Rick signed as a solo artist with Dark Shadow Recordings in 2018 and released his debut album Breaking in Lonesome in 2019. With impeccable harmony singers and phenomenal pickers, Rick set out to show the world what his brand of bluegrass sounded like. His second album, The Next Mountain (2021), received industry-wide attention for its intense chart action, and was nominated for “Song of the Year” at both SPBGMA and IBMA, and at IBMA 2022. Awarded “New Artist of the Year”.
