The Toronto Raptors’ search for a new head coach took an interesting turn this week, with the team reportedly meeting with ESPN analyst JJ Reddick about the possibility of filling the vacancy. Whether anything more happened is unknown, but the report provided a glimpse of just how wide a net Toronto is planning to cast to find a successor to Nick Nurse.
While the team is moving through that process, Reddick is continuing his media work with podcasts, TV appearances, and Friday night appointments. Reddick, Richard Jefferson and Ryan Ruocco appear at the ESPN booth for Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals between the Miami Heat and the New York Knicks. During the first quarter, Jefferson waited for Reddick to explain what happened before calling him “coach,” and decided to goof around on air.
Both Ruocco, who said he knew Jefferson couldn’t resist, and Reddick, who seemed to have missed it from the beginning, were great. Of course, Reddick just came out of the NBA into a fairly successful career in media, so he never became a coach during his playing days.
