MACON, GA — Record Store Day is coming up on Saturday, so music lovers get ready.
Record Store Day is a twice-yearly holiday that celebrates the coming together of record stores and the music community.
“From the biggest labels to the indie labels, they put out the hottest releases of the year. It’s the case,” said William Rutledge, manager of Fresh Produce Records.
Rutledge says the store opens at noon, but people should plan to get there early.
“This isn’t like, ‘I’ll sit on the couch and order from the website whenever I want.’ In fact, you should be here at most two hours before the doors open.
Rutledge said Taylor Swift’s Record Store Day release, “Folklore: The Long Pound Studio Session,” is one of the most popular titles to come out on Saturday.
Another popular release Rutledge mentioned was the new album Dance Mode from the popular children’s show Bluey.
Personally, Rutledge says he’s looking forward to a release featuring Jerry Garcia and Todd Rundgren.
Record Store Day is exciting because it gives fans the opportunity to support their favorite artists by purchasing physical copies of their work.
Some records are also Record Store Day exclusive releases.
“Those are the things they’re putting pressure on, and I’m not sure you’ll get another chance.
As a music collector himself, there were many titles that interested him. He encourages people to use his record store day to discover new artists.
“The nature of Record Store Day is like, ‘Here’s your chance to get this,’ and if you want to make the most of the experience, the best you can do when they put out two or three hundred listings. The title is, you start hearing things you’ve never heard before,” said Rutledge.
Record Store Day will be held again in November.
Rutledge says the best way to get the most out of your day is to think ahead first. As new music lists come out, let Fresh Produce Records know what songs you’re excited about.
He says he wants to work with the community to get the titles you love.
