(CNN) A train carrying ethanol derailed Thursday morning in Raymond, Minnesota, setting several cars on fire, officials said.
The Raymond Fire Department said in a Facebook post that the derailment occurred around 1 a.m.
BNSF Railroad’s general director of public affairs, Lena Kent, told CNN the train was carrying a mixed cargo containing ethanol and corn syrup.
No injuries have been reported, and railroad personnel are on the scene and will serve as first responders, Kent said.
The Kandyyohi County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that homes within half a mile of the derailment had been evacuated.
The main line has been blocked and the estimated time it will take to reopen the line is unknown, the rail said. The cause of the derailment is under investigation.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation has closed a nearby highway due to a derailment and fire, the fire department said.
Raymond is about two hours west of Minneapolis.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
