(CNN) State police say the deaths of three Michigan rappers whose bodies were found in an abandoned apartment in early February were linked to gang violence and may have information about the incident. He asked the public to come forward.
In a series of tweets on Friday, Michigan State Police confirmed they are continuing an investigation into the triple murder of 28-year-old Armani Kelly. Dante Wicker, 31 years old. Montoya Givens, 31, was reported missing after her January 21st performance at a club in Detroit was cancelled.
Their bodies were found nearly two weeks later in an apartment complex in Highland Park, about six miles northwest of Detroit, and state police later said they each died of multiple gunshot wounds.
“This was an incident related to gang violence.” Migan State Police said on Twitter on Friday, addresses what it said were circulating “rumours” about the investigation. “This murder was not random and nothing was attributed to the music or performance.”
No one has been taken into custody, but police said “there are others who know the details and we need them to come forward.”
“Together, we can bring closure to these families,” state police said.
Police were first alerted to the man’s disappearance after Kelly’s mother reported him missing on January 23, said Michael McGinnis, the Detroit police chief of crimes.
As the story of Kelly’s disappearance gained media attention, “other family members of other missing persons came to realize that it was a friend of their loved one, whom they had not met either, and therefore Both are reported missing,” McGinnis said.
The bodies were found on February 2 in a police complex described as “rat-infested”. A few days later, state police confirmed “This was not a random incident,” investigators believe they have identified a motive.
