When Griffen Palmer recently visited the Country Radio Seminar (CRS) in Nashville, country now We share a little bit about his musical journey and what he has in store for the future.
At what age did your passion for music begin?
I first started writing songs when I was in my early teens, but it wasn’t full-time, and I took it seriously until I was probably in college…I started playing instruments around the age of eight. Main thing as far as I remember.
Did your family influence your decision to start making music?
My family is very musical and I feel like my dad gave me piano lessons or something when I was four or five. At the time, I didn’t pay much attention to it when I had to leave the outdoors and go to practice, but as I found it on my own and did it at my own pace, I came to like it.
What was it like to see country stars Lily Rose, Keith Urban and Florida Georgia Line record songs you wrote?
Iamazing. It’s one of those things that never gets old. Hearing your idol or music icon sing the lyrics you wrote always feels like you have to do a double take. . I hope I’m always mesmerized every time I hear the artist cut one of her in my songs.
Who would you say has been your biggest influence musically?
Chris Stapleton, I love him for things like country writing.Sam Hunt has put out a lot of really cool stuff. I have always been inspired by similar core artists like Leon, Elton John. But yeah, it’s always changing. Depends on what I’m listening to at that moment.
Your song “Second Guessing” Songland What does it mean to you to see such a positive reaction from fans on the revamped version?
It is very good. It’s one of those things since I was Songland, I get messages from people all the time asking me to release a version. It was always in the plan and we were working on it slowly but reacting the way they had or had and just playing this song it means a lot.
How has this song influenced your career so far?
Many doors have been opened.Initially Songland And you know, signed my record deal and got to play with Big Loud Bachelor’s degreeThis song has given me a lot of crazy opportunities.
Can you tell us a little more about what it was like to be on the show? Bachelor’s degree?
We’re happy to report that it looks exactly like it does when you’re watching TV at home. They put me in the band like a little dressing room, hid away from the date, and had to climb a secret elevator to surprise the date. So yeah, after going through it all, it was pretty cool to see it here in Nashville with my team and staff. We had a little watching party. Yeah, big moment.
You recently released a song called “25 To Life”. What inspired this love story?
It was written by Jeff Warburton and I, who is one of my closest collaborators and one of my closest friends. We wrote this in the middle of a pandemic. When the whole world shut down we decided to live together and wake up every morning to write songs. So this was in the middle of it, with the title ’25 To Life’ and a concept like this. How can you write about love as if it were a long-term thing, like a sentence? And the whole idea of this prison-like situation felt cool if you could write it right and make it about relationships. Because long sentences are best when you’re with someone you love. That’s kind of what we were thinking. After that, it was the foundation of a project we were working on, and it was the first song we really decided we wanted to put on the record. Because it gives people a little preview of what’s to come.
What was it like shooting the music video for this song?
It was my first music video, so it was cool to shoot a music video in general. So it’s pretty amazing to see all the crew and all the work put together to put this three minute video of him together and see it all edited later. I feel like I don’t understand the technical stuff very well. I still watch music videos that amaze me every time, so it’s pretty cool to see that happen with my songs.
There are a lot of talented people out there doing their job. It’s always great to see someone doing something they’re really good at and Justin Clough who directed the video was amazing. It was really cool to see them act and see them off camera.
You said you have a debut project in progress. Anything else you can share about it?
I think fans can expect a lot of songs that tell the story of what it’s like to find yourself, meet new people, fall in love, and be heartbroken in your early twenties. I hope it encapsulates the feeling of being there.
It’s like it took 25 or 20 years to prepare the first project. I think every new artist wants to put together exactly how he feels musically in one piece of music. So it took me a long time to figure it out.
