“I hope people only listen to American music. Blues, jazz, Cajun, country, gospel, rock, it’s all there. I like being in a place where it meets organically.” It’s a fun song, so maybe they’ll dig into it, but I wanted to give as many chances as possible to reach people who don’t know anything about me, and if they were introduced to me on this record, they’d be me. You may go listen to other music made by and discover some new things.
In light of the good news, Giddens also shared the single “You’re the Only One.” All in all, the song is masterful for the way the instrumentation sizzles the air with a bittersweet note and the way the artist serenades your ears with her powerfully beautiful vocal performance. “You’re the Only One” is a song full of musical creativity.
Giddens and orchestral composer Michael Abels win this year’s Pulitzer Prize for Music for Opera Omar.
