The late Kenny Rogers is set to release his first posthumous album. life is like a song, released an unreleased new song “Catchin’ Grasshoppers” on June 2nd. A hymn to Rogers’ two sons, originally written by Laura McCall Torno and Earl Torno.
“Catchin’ Grashopers” is a time capsule of Roger’s time spent with his children and the fulfillment of being a father. Rogers sings, “If somebody needs me, somebody needs me/They’ve got to wait/’Cause I’m here on Hanson’s field/And today’s a fine day/Yeah, We are here at Hanson’s field.”/ There’s no other way / Yes, we’re catching grasshoppers here. This country ballad is more than just a love letter to his family, it’s also focused on savoring moments before they’re gone.
Future projects will be curated and executive produced by Rogers’ wife Wanda Rogers. In her press release, she said, “These songs are such beautiful reminders of his love for a man ‘for the feelings that the songs create’.” He often said he wanted his songs to be “what every man wants to say, what every woman wants to hear”. I think this album has a lot of those moments.”
Two other unreleased tracks were released earlier this year, one of which was the album opener, “Love Is A Drug.” The original his recordings of these upcoming tracks are from his 2008 to his 2011 life is like a song It will be Rodgers’ first non-Christmas studio album in a decade. Rodgers passed away in 2020 at the age of 81, and the album aims to be a broad and diverse representation of Rodgers’ iconic musical talent and influence on country music as a whole.
