A Monterey Park police officer shot and killed a man Friday morning in a shootout on the 10th Freeway in East Los Angeles, blocking traffic in both directions until Friday night and causing a massive traffic jam, officials said.
Police attempted to pull over a white BMW they said was linked to the March 14 robbery in Los Angeles when the suspect began firing at officers, resulting in a deadly interaction. The incident started just after 10:00 a.m.
When officers tried to pull over the driver, he fled and a police chase began, officials said. Police tracked the vehicle west on the 10 Freeway from Atlantic Boulevard to near Campus Road.

The highway remained closed in both directions for about 10 hours when officers investigated the shooting.
