Here are three new albums worth mentioning this week.
“The Flying Game” Mike Gordon
The amazing Phish bassist releases his sixth solo album. The album gallops like an antelope through 13 tracks that blend folk and funk, disco and dancehall, new wave and new ideas. Few sounds reminiscent of Gordon’s famous Vermont quartet, the greatest jam band on the planet, but plenty of Fish’s well-known sense of adventure and humor. Flying Games includes drummer John Kimmock, keyboardist Robert Walter, percussionist Craig Myers and guitarist/pedal steeler Scott Murawski.
“Lauren Daigle” Lauren Daigle
This amazing pop vocalist is back with the long-awaited fourth full studio album. This is the self-titled album following the platinum-selling success of 2018’s Look Up Child. The eponymous production is packed with great songs, including the chart-topping lead single “Thank God I Do” and the soulful “New.”
“Dance of the Mystic Bliss” Michael Blake & Chroma Nova
Blake is an accomplished tenor saxophonist who has released 15 albums and has also worked with The Lounge Lizards, The Jazz Composers Collective, Ben Allison and Charlie Hunter, offering listeners new and original compositions. The album features Guilherme Monteiro (guitar), Mauro Refosco and Rogerio Boccato (percussion, marimba), Sky Steel (violin, Rabeka, Gonzi), Christopher Hoffman (cello) and Michael Bates (bass). Accompanied by the new Chroma Nova Ensemble. .
