Three children and three staff members were shot dead at a private Christian school in Tennessee on Monday before the gunman was killed by police, officials said.
The shooting took place at The Covenant School on Barton Hills Boulevard in Nashville, where officers “engaged” the attackers. At a press conference in the afternoon, police described the victim as a woman believed to be in her teens.
A spokesman said the shooter died on the second floor of the school. Officials said she had an “assault-type lyle and two pistols.”

Students at this preschool through sixth grade school were bused to Woodmont Baptist Church, two miles away, to reunite with their parents.
Police said they received the first call about the shooter at 10:13 a.m. in CT and Nashville firefighters first reported Their personnel were responding to an “aggressive aggressor” at 10:39 AM (CT).
“The police response was swift,” police spokesman Don Aaron told reporters.
“They heard shooting from the second level. Officers engaged her.She was fatally shot by police who responded.”
Five police officers stood up to the shooting
The names and ages of the victims, described by police as students and staff of the school, have not been released.
Shortly after police announced the shooter was dead, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation also said there was “no current threat to public safety.”
According to its website, Covenant School employs 33 teachers, with a student-to-teacher ratio of 8:1.
The school was founded in 2001 as a Covenant Presbyterian ministry and shares the same address as the church.
Press Secretary Carine Jean-Pierre said President Joe Biden has been briefed on the school shooting.
