Artemis II is NASA’s first manned mission to establish a long-term presence on the moon for science and exploration under Artemis, and the first astronauts to go to the moon in over 50 years. It’s a mission. The approximately 10-day Artemis II flight test, launched on the agency’s powerful Space Launch System rocket, will demonstrate the Orion spacecraft’s life support systems and the capabilities humans need to live and work in deep space. Validate the technology.
Through the Artemis mission, NASA will use innovative technology to explore the lunar surface more than ever before and work with commercial and international partners. And we’ll use what we’ve learned on and around the Moon to make the next big leap, sending the first astronauts to Mars.
