Sunday concerts feature music from Denmark, Germany, Argentina and Spain. Also included is a unique new song in collaboration with an autistic child who does not have language.
The concert features Danish pianist Francesco Balfoyd and mezzo-soprano Megan Moore. It takes place on Sunday at 3:00 pm at Martha Ellen Tai Recital Hall, 300 Union Drive, Iowa.
Sponsored by the Ames Town & Gown Chamber Music Society, the concert features Danish music, German art songs known as Lieders, and love songs by Argentinian and Spanish composers.
According to a Town & Gown news release, another notable part of the program will be “a recently commissioned and textualized work by a youth with autism who has no language.”
Ames Town & Gown Artistic Director Paula Forrest said:
This is the 4th concert of Ames Town & Gown’s 73rd season.
Who are Megan Moore and Francesco Barfeed?
According to a news release, Moore is a co-founder of The Links Project, which “amplifies diverse voices through new song commissions, comprehensive concerts and educational programs.”
Founded five years ago, the Lynx Project’s Amplify series collaborated with non-verbal autistic children to create over four hours of original music.
Moore has appeared in Tan Dun’s ‘Buddha Passion’ in Seattle, Modena and Abu Dhabi. She has appeared at the San Diego Opera, Santa Fe Her Opera, and the St. Louis Opera Theater.
Barfoed was born and raised in Copenhagen. He not only performs solo, but also performs joint productions. He has performed at European chamber music festivals and is also a member of his Wundertrio formed at the Manchester Music Festival in Vermont.
Moore and Barfeed have performed across the country, including the Kennedy Center and Lincoln Center.
They won first prize at the Young Concert Artists International Audition and the Copenhagen Lied Duo Competition, and received the highest honor from the Naumburg Foundation.
There will also be a master class
While she was at Ames, Moore held a masterclass with vocal students from Iowa State University to share her talent and love of music.
Masterclasses are also free and open to the public.
Classes are held on campus at 4:00 PM in Room 125 of Estes Hall.
