MU and Partners Release New Guide for Musicians With Pernambuco Bows

Music industry groups have teamed up to provide a guide for musicians to understand the results of the recent Conference of the Parties (CoP) 19 in Panama in November 2022.

The CoP decided that it should not agree to Brazil’s proposal to transfer from the CITES Appendix II list to Appendix I the Brazilian indigenous wood used in the manufacture of bows for stringed instruments. However, certain protection provisions were established. It was introduced to ensure the protection of Pernambuco in the future. It was agreed, however, that Pernambuco bows, or bows exported from Brazil for the first time as finished products, would require an export license.

The Federation of International Musicians (FIM) and the Federation of American Orchestras, in collaboration with MU and others, have created this informative guide for musicians on how to protect themselves and their bows as they travel and work around the world. is created.
