House Foreign Relations Committee C.Hairman Michael McCall (R-Tex.) requested transcripts of interviews with five officials on the Afghan withdrawal.
“Through our ongoing investigations, we can see how and why the Biden administration’s disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan resulted in 13 deaths and 47 more wounded of U.S. servicemen, and We have determined that we have important information in determining why this is the case,” McCall wrote.

The five officials include former Chief of Staff Jonathan Menuti to Deputy Undersecretary of State for Administration Carol Perez. Mark Evans, former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Afghanistan. James DeHart, former Afghan special forces leader. Jane Howell, Consular Affairs. and Ambassador Daniel Smith.
Smith led a State Department investigation into the withdrawal from chaotic Afghanistan.
McCall sent a letter to the five on Friday asking them to appear to transcribe the interview. He asks to “contact the committee to arrange an interview” by May 22.
“It is important that they speak to the Commission without delay. As we continue to gather evidence, the Commission will continue to interview additional current and former administration officials involved in planning and carrying out the withdrawal. he added.

Since becoming a member of the House Foreign Relations Committee, McCall has criticized the withdrawal from Afghanistan. Back in March, he summoned the State Department to submit a cable against Kabul, signed by more than 20 US embassy officials in Kabul, denouncing the regime’s preparations to withdraw.
Mr McCall is inching closer to having Secretary of State Anthony Brinken detained for defamation. The counter telegram was sent out on July 13, 2021, ahead of the Taliban’s overthrow of the US-backed Afghan government the following month.
