Get the full interview below.
The main concept is Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE Mystery solving game. What kind of cases are players looking forward to solving? What is the general case flow?
Kazuki Kodaka, scenario writer: “When an incident occurs, the main character, Yuma, enlists the help of the great detectives to investigate the case. Each master detective has a unique skill called forensic strength. Therefore, when Yuma investigates a case, In addition, the case can be solved in a different way by borrowing the forensic strengths of the great detectives, and if Yuma finds enough clues, a shinigami that haunts you, a magical shinigami that creates a mystery labyrinth. The Mystery Labyrinth is a world where the mysteries of the real world are embodied, so as Yuma progresses through the Mystery Labyrinth, obstacles that embody the mystery will appear. Proceeds through the Mystery Labyrinth, solves numerous mysteries and problems, and eventually arrives at the truth.
“Mystery Labyrinth is like a Disneyland attraction, the environment changes as you progress. It’s a little different from the conversation-only mystery game, but rain cordyou can explore more of the world to solve those mysteries.
Can you tell us a bit more about how Mystery Labyrinth works? What puzzles can players expect to encounter while exploring?
mud: “There is an enemy called the Mystery Phantom, who embodies the will of those who do not want Yuma to know the truth and who wants to bury the incident. In addition to the battle with the Mystery Phantom, there are plenty of mysteries that come up in questions, etc. There are various question patterns, so not just fighting, but QTEs and other questions.
During an interrogation, is it possible that evidence could be missed or the investigation unsuccessful, or would it be impossible to proceed until all relevant information was obtained?
mud: “No, it’s not. Players must find all the evidence — they can’t miss it. Reaper must find them all in order to create the Mystery Labyrinth.”
I would like to talk a little bit about the game world set in Kanai Ward, where you can freely explore. What is the size? Are there multiple districts, new areas that unlock as you progress, etc. And what else is there to do in the world when you’re not investigating cases?
mud: “So Kanai Ward isn’t really an open world, Persona, select a location on the map and explore the district. In addition to the investigation of the incident, the main part is flowing while the investigation of the incident is not done. As such, the player must travel to different locations to follow the main his story. There are also subquests that can be received from NPCs, and you can get rewards.
Do interrogations offer dialogue options or are they more linear and pre-defined?
mud: “Such dialogue appears in Mystery Labyrinth QTE questions when investigating an incident.”
Is there an easy way for players to see case information for particularly long cases? Is there a diary that players keep?
mud: “The specific clues and evidence that the protagonist finds become items called Keys to Solve, which help solve the mystery in the Mystery Labyrinth.
Can you explain how a deduction deathmatch works, and do players level up or gain special skills or abilities?
mud: “In a detective deathmatch, the Mystery Phantom will make statements and approach the protagonist like an obstacle. Players will dodge or slash those statements while finding the correct evidence and the key to solving the case. Once you find the solution key, you can use it for statements that seem incorrect.
“There are also mini-games that the user can play. By playing these mini-games, the hero can acquire skills. Having it will make the game easier to play.
to both rain cord and Dangaronpa, with characters placed in stressful situations. How did you approach creating the same kind of tension and conflict that you were able to create in Danganronpabut in a completely new setting?
mud: “The first thing I think about is how the character develops, how they gain experience throughout the story. Also, growth doesn’t always mean good. It’s amazing. or different or negative, and the character will grow more and try to handle the situation each time they overcome some obstacle, thus creating a stressful, stressful situation. You can see how your character develops by looking at what they look like and how they look in the eyes of the player, considering the first impression they make on them. increase.”
We are still working on the subject of comparison, but you had this theme of hope and despair. Danganronpa. do rain cord Will you explore similar themes? If so, how would that be approached?
mud: “rain cord have a different theme than DanganronpaAnd we can’t say much about it. Because if you do, you’ll screw it up. But people will understand what we are trying to say. But I think the main character has to deal with many stressful situations. ”
with this game Danganronpa Has your approach to game development evolved at all over the course of the series? Any lessons learned?I think every time you make a new announcement there will always be fans who expect another game like DanganronpaIt allowed me to reach my fanbase, but it didn’t give me a new look. Danganronpa every time?
mud: “since rain cord Created by the same staff behind Danganronpathere will be similar elements. Danganronpa as one of their pride.so we don’t think rain cord Similarity in nature is a negative thing.and meanwhile Danganronpa was very well received, so I thought there was a limit to creating a scenario. So by creating rain cord I figured there would be a wider audience in 3D, including Mystery Labyrinth and others, that could appeal to those who don’t really like mystery games.and i think Danganronpa As we scaled up, we had more budget to create more. And I’ve always wanted to make a 3D game that looks like this: Detroit: Become Human and life is strangeSo I ended up creating a new IP. In the end, we created the game because we wanted to do it ourselves. ”
What was the process of creating the Master Detectives like? How did you come up with their unique powers and personalities?
mud: “So there are many patterns in the process. There are some Master Detectives that are created with a case in mind first. There are examples where we first thought about skills and then found a case for it, and we also took inspiration from other games. life is strange It has the ability to go back in time. I took inspiration from that to create the Time Leap skill. There is a great detective who slips through walls and becomes transparent. The idea came from other games as well. ”
Can you tell us a little more about Kanai Ward and how it relates to all the mysteries the game solves?
mud: “Kanai Ward is a city that is isolated from communication with the outside world. Kanai Ward is basically ruled by a giant corporation called Amaterasu Corporation, which has its own peacekeeper functioning as a police station because the police are not functioning properly in Kanai Ward. It’s a rainy city, and the detectives solve a big unsolved case in Kanai Ward. The story is bold and well-developed, so players can finish the game and enjoy a season of drama. I feel like I’ve seen you.”
Previous titles were also released on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.Are you considering a release rain cord On these platforms in the future?
Representative Spike Chunsoft: “no.”
(In a post-interview email, Spike Chunsoft explains:[Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE] is exclusive to Nintendo Switch and will only be released on that platform. ”)
What fans of the original can expect rain cord Is there anything you would like to say to first-time Kazuki Kodaka title players?
mud: “It’s a completely new mystery game, so it’s very difficult to describe in words…I’m currently playing the final stages of the game, and I’m sure players will experience something they’ve never experienced before.” I’ve experienced it before.I think we made a really good game.I want people to play it even if they don’t buy it.”
