A SEPTA spokesman said a man was shot dead Saturday afternoon at the northbound Walnut Locust Platform on the Broad Street Line.
SEPTA spokesperson Andrew Bush said no one else was injured.
The shooting appeared to be the result of a brawl between the two men shortly after 2:30 p.m., Bush said. Authorities were still gathering details as of Saturday night, but Bush said the altercation escalated when one man pulled out a gun and shot another.
Bush said SEPTA police had taken the suspect into custody and the weapons had been recovered. No additional suspects were immediately sought, Bush said.
The victim was shot multiple times in the left thigh and was taken to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 3:00 p.m., according to Philadelphia police.
Bush said the Southbound Broad Street Line was busier than usual on Saturday. This is because SEPTA provided him extra service for the Phillies vs. Reds game, which started at 4:05 p.m. when shooting.
Broad Street Line service was interrupted for several hours as law enforcement handled the scene, with shuttle buses supplementing service. According to Bush, the Broad Street Line was fully reopened by the evening.
Police have not released the name of the victim or suspect.
Two people were shot at Snyder Station on the Broad Street Line on March 29 and were hospitalized in stable condition.
