(CNN) — As anti-trans and anti-drug bills roll in across the country, music icon and social activist Madonna is rescheduling her upcoming celebration tour.
On Monday, the “Vogue” entertainer announced that her world tour, which begins in Vancouver in July, will stop in Nashville, Tennessee, and seven other US cities.
In a statement, the singer said, “LGBTQ+ oppression is not only unacceptable and inhumane,” but “makes America a dangerous place for its most vulnerable citizens, especially trans women of color.” said.
Earlier this month, Tennessee passed two of the most drastic and restrictive anti-trans and anti-drug laws in the country.
On March 2, Tennessee’s Republican Governor Bill Lee signed a bill restricting public drag show performances, taking the first action in his state this year. Laws are set to limit “adult cabaret performances” in public spaces to protect them from the sight of children.
That same day, Lee signed Senate Bill 0001, banning gender-affirming care for trans minors and adding Tennessee to the list of Republican-led states to pass such legislation.
On Monday, Madonna labeled laws protecting “so-called” children “baseless and pathetic.”
Madonna concluded her message by saying, “See you from the stage in Nashville celebrating the beauty that is the queer community!”
Called the Greatest Hits Tour, the Celebration Tour will feature an all-day “one-of-a-kind experience” for Bob the Drag Queen, winner of Season 8 of RuPaul’s Drag Race.
The tour will take place at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on December 22nd, with other shows through late January 2024.
