Taja Cheek’s massive project L’Rain will soon join LCD Soundsystem, Jamie XX and Big Freedia in the highly anticipated Re:Set concert series.
She’s back with new music on Tuesday, June 6th. It’s her first work since 2021 Malaise. Cleverly titled “New Year’s UnResolution,” the track explores shimmering, hypnotic sonic territory, its lyrical content meandering through the darkness of complicated relationships.
Of “New Year’s Unresolved,” she said:
“The lyrics of this song are meant to give you a sense of what it’s like to think through the trajectory of a relationship at different points in your life, whether it’s just after a breakup or months later. Written at different times: What is it like to feel that you have forgotten a part of yourself? like, like water, like air).How do you set new terms and conditions with someone you’ve been interacting with in a very specific way for so long?;after a period of intense intimacy. , how do you deal with the confusion of stepping into a distant and unknown place?”
