Officials said the military aircraft caused a roar that could be heard across Washington, D.C. on Sunday and shook even homes.
The Annapolis City Emergency Management Department tweeted, “A loud boom heard across the DMV area was caused by a Department of Defense licensed aircraft. This flight caused a sonic boom. Information available at this time. That’s it,” he said.
Around 3:09 pm, the 911 Center began to be flooded with reports of a loud explosion. News4 also received multiple calls and emails from concerned viewers.
The City of Bowie tweeted that the sonic boom came from “a plane leaving Joint Base Andrews.”
The D.C. Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency said it was “aware of reports of a major ‘boom’ from communities throughout the metropolitan area this afternoon.” No threat at this time. “
Other local law enforcement agencies also reported receiving calls about the noise. DC Fire and EMS said there were no reported “ongoing incidents”.
