SALEM, Oregon — Two local organizations, Phoenix and Brookings, were among the 53 organizations receiving grants from the Oregon Arts Commission (OAC), according to a news release Friday afternoon.
“The $5,000 Arts Build Communities grant was awarded to 53 organizations addressing community issues and needs through art,” said the release. “The Arts Build Community program is dedicated to increasing access to art for underserved audiences, with the goal of broad geographic impact throughout Oregon.”
One of two local organizations, Anima Mundi Productions, will use the grant to support the music project “Among Sisters,” which consists of two concerts in which female musicians perform works by musician composers. It is planned, says the release. The grant will also support two new world premiere commissions and her 10-day residency with her quartet, the Uptown Strings, an all-black, all-female ensemble.
The OAC also awarded grants to Brookings’ Pelican Bay Arts Association, the release said. This grant will support his Youth Summer Art Camp, with funding for education costs, background checks for him, snacks, program adjustments, scholarships, and support for three weekly camps at the Manly Art Center. is devoted to
Funds will be used for teacher scholarships, background checks, refreshments, program adjustments, scholarships, and overhead costs for three one-week camps at the Manly Arts Centre. This camp gives 30 students the opportunity to learn art skills.
Arts Commission Vice Chair Harlen Springer said, “These grants help the arts and other community-based organizations address issues, problems or needs in their communities through the arts.” This allows local citizens to employ creative thinking and collective responses to strengthen and enrich their communities.”
