We recently had a producer join us as well. Spotify studio in LA Working with many talented engineers and musicians to create their own samples and use them in two new Spotify singles. new radical Hit “You only get back what you give” and the original track, a fantastic lo-fi beat-heavy “”Technicolor”
for the record We interviewed Bad Snacks about their new sound pack, their new Spotify single, and what it’s like to be a nerd in the Spotify studio.
What is your creative approach to tracks on Spotify singles?
I started out as a lo-fi producer, but I think a major part of my sound and evolution has been to incorporate sounds that go beyond lo-fi while maintaining that warm hug-like slimy feeling that lo-fi evokes. increase. When it comes to Spotify singles, I really feel that the way lo-fi evolves is to be as picky about the samples you use as possible. That’s why I asked my friend’s arranger for help. Ryan Leesonharpist Nira Hunterand Whole body and soul. We were able to use Spotify Studio to record string quartet and harp pieces that were heavily inspired by Golden Age Hollywood tunes, and then slice them up to make them sound very authentic to me. I was able to create an instrumental that I could feel.
How was recording at the Spotify studio different from your usual production and practice?
Spotify Studios is a wonderland for people like me. It’s rare to have access to such a great studio with all-star musicians and recording engineers, so I wanted to take advantage of it. Normally my daily production activities involve a lot of tinkering and experimentation, but this session was very well planned and thoughtfully planned as there was so much logistics to sort out.
There’s an incredible amount of cool, unique, and well-loved gear, all with deep stories. For example, did you come across a first-generation bass synthesizer made by a water heater company? crazy! It didn’t take long for me to start talking enthusiastically with the studio engineers about all the fun facts about the room.
What tools do you use to create your music?
I’m a big synth geek, so I use whatever I can experiment with. Working with familiar and unfamiliar equipment at the Spotify studio was a lot of fun. Especially Roland’s Juno-104 and TR-808 synths, and Hologram’s Microcosm pedals. Of course, I’m also a string player, so the violin is very important in almost every track I make.
And of course Soundtrap is very good, very accessible and the way it allows for real-time online collaboration is very useful.
We recently released a sound pack on Soundtrap that you can use for your own music. Why is it important for artists to be able to share resources and skills with each other?
We are in a truly unprecedented time of sharing ideas in the art community. As a self taught producer and engineer, I can’t tell you how helpful it is to have access to some of the same ingredients my favorite producer cooks. I’ve always been pretty open about my processes and resources and don’t think that should be expected of producers or artists, but the community that has benefited me so much through their transparency and generosity. I know that is around me
And as a producer, I’m always looking for sample packs to bring my ideas to life. So, in this current pack, I wanted to create sounds that are not only extremely usable, but can inspire producers in unexpected ways. We hope you enjoy these vintage textures. I had a lot of fun making this.
Who is your biggest creative influence?
This is always a tough question as there are always so many and it changes with the seasons. Some of my all-time favorites are flying lotus, björk, TOKi MONSTA, radiohead, teevesand Disclosure. All of them have a full catalog and you won’t get bored.
