LIMERICK indie group Anna’s Anchor has released a new single ahead of the album’s release.
Inspired by the liberal holidays of Portugal, Hotel Dom Pancho is driven by dreamy synth sounds and shows the new direction the band has taken in recent years.
With keyboardist Claire O’Brien’s harmonies and fantastical sounds, this new release isn’t your run-of-the-mill rock song.
Frontman Marty Ryan said he tried to achieve “something unique” with the arrangement.
Through the creation of Hotel Don Pancho, Marty was able to reflect on one of the last “really carefree” moments of his life.
After suffering a head injury about a year ago, the singer found inspiration for her fourth album, The Merries.
“I was really scared. After that, I was just talking about the happy memories I had in my life.”
One of these memories happened in the Algarve, the southernmost region of Portugal.
“It was just the typical vacation package,” recalls Marty. “During the week, I was 100% just being there and just being in the moment with my friends. The liberation I felt that week was unlike anything I’ve felt since.” , changed my life a lot in terms of responsibility and becoming an adult.I look back on it as the last moment of real freedom for me.”
Anna’s Anchor’s fourth album will be released on July 7th. Inspired by Marty’s childhood amusement parks, ‘The Merries’ is a collection of songs that speak of cherished memories.
The Anacotti native moved to the United States to pursue a doctorate in music education. This July, he will be back in Ireland for the band’s album release tour, with a stop at Doelands.
What is Marty most looking forward to?
‘I’ve been out of Limerick for two years now.
Anna’s Anker will play at Dolan’s on July 15th, but the frontman can’t promise it won’t be “emotional.” Dorance.ie
