And I think that scene when he walks into that classroom is sort of the core of who he is. It is brave enough to say that Kaga is crazy.
But preparing for these emotional scenes on a technical level is knowing who the writers are and re-reading the scripts over and over. And a lot of music, a lot of AirPods between takes, and just surrender to the world.
Kiara, what appealed to you when you first heard about Nicole’s character?
Chiara Picciardo: When I first got the script, I was in photography in high school and I was artistic, so it resonated with her. I was cool with everyone, but I still had a small group of friends like Simon and Maddie. I could relate to those aspects of her and how brave she was and how much she fought for her friend Maddy.
Christian, a lot of your scenes are interacting with characters that no one else should see. How fun was that dynamic to play with?
Christian Flores: Oh, it’s so much fun. I mean, I usually just leave it up to my character and just know the endings and scenes. It’s out of my life experience, so I’m just in that strange world.
