John Owen Lowe & Sian Clifford unstable
Screen rant: John Owen, your character plays the flute unstable, and a lot of jokes about flutists. Of all the orchestral instruments, why did you choose to risk the wrath of that section?
John Owen Lowe: Great question. I think that’s probably true because it’s the only orchestra that won. No, we like playing the flute on set.
Sian Clifford: This show is a love letter.
John Owen Lowe: Exactly. I’m just celebrating the flute. It’s a beautiful instrument, and we all admit it. It’s a little silly to see it played under the auspices of having it on our show. I think I was entitled to tease a little bit about.
Cyan, you’ve done this kind of thing before free bagbut what’s it like to act on the scene with the creators of the show? Is it added pressure or does it make things easier?
Sian Clifford: My experience was as positive as working with friends was positive. This means people are bringing more to the table. If the creator is right there, you can ask questions. [and even] stupid question. I personally like it because it feels like a more collaborative environment. For me, it’s great.
John Owen Your character struggles a bit with being in his father’s shadow. As the show was wrapping up and developing, did you have conversations with your dad about your experience of being the son of someone established your entire life?
John Owen Lowe: I have had many conversations about it with my therapist. I don’t know how many people there were with my father. The truth is, I’ve been navigating it for 27 years now. And I think my dad was very supportive along the way, at least as supportive as he could be.
Cyan, you are very good at being a hilarious foil to these really big characters.
Sian Clifford: I think so because there’s actually less pressure. I love it when you have the dynamics that you can play off and bounce back, especially when you’re playing against an opponent like Rob Lowe who is more experienced. You can’t help but have fun, feel inspired, and learn because it’s all happening.
