Please tell us about your background and how you came to create NFT art.
So, tell us a little bit about yourself. I grew up in New Zealand but ventured to America to study engineering and play tennis. Growing up, I always had a creative side. I started modeling while in college and realized how much I love the whole creative process, so in 2019 I picked up a camera and started capturing moments. When the pandemic hit in 2020 I ended up going back to New Zealand and lost my engineering job potential. I discovered NFTS in August 2021 when New Zealand was in lockdown. After meeting so many cool creatives and finding space for a few months, I decided to create my first nft collection.
Who are your favorite artists in both traditional and NFT spaces?
With so much talent, it’s difficult. I really admire artists like Cath Simard, Reuben Wu, Summer Wagner, Jason Charles Hill and Chelsea Kauai.
What themes and subjects in your work attract you?
I really enjoy evoking emotions with my work. I think that’s why I find myself drawn to taking more self-portraits in nature, where more stories can be told. Being outdoors makes me happy, so I am always drawn to landscapes and wondering how I can create a scene from my environment.
Can you talk about a specific NFT art you’ve created that you’re particularly proud of?
Warrior is a standout favorite for me because of the amount of emotional energy it takes to draw out.
How do you stay inspired and keep coming up with new ideas for art?
I don’t let myself get stagnant, I keep my creativity locked in a box. Always looking to find ways to expand and challenge my mind. Writing notes can really help bring your ideas and visions to life.
Tell us about your creative process and how you bring your ideas to life.
My creative process is pretty simple most of the time. I start with an idea or feeling that I want to bring to life. From there, I come up with ideas by journaling or making mood boards. Then I come up with the look I want, how I want it shot, and the location. Some shoots are very improvised and spur-of-the-moment, and some take methodical steps to bring ideas to life.
How do you think NFTs have changed the art world, and what impact do you think they will have in the long term?
NFTS has given artists a voice and a chance to really showcase who they are. NFTS eliminates middlemen for artists and allows artists to sell their art on their own terms rather than through art-her dealers and agents. In the long run, I hope that artists will be able to make a living from their art.
Where do you see yourself and your work heading in the future, and what are your goals for your NFT art career?
As a full-time photographer, I would like to continue working with dream clients such as travel agencies and outdoor brands. I also want to take my self-portrait to the next level by starting to shoot small short films while traveling. I think what stands out for me is my ability in both photo modeling and photography. Models don’t get enough credit because they have art like that.
Could you give us a peek at the upcoming NFT drops?
Currently working on building my current series “Beauty in pain”. “Beauty in Pain” is a phrase that expresses that there is beauty in even painful or painful experiences. This phrase suggests that the wounds, struggles, and hardships that people face in life have a certain charm or aesthetic, and that these experiences can shape and enhance a person in ways that ultimately enhance their overall beauty and worth. Suggestions. The next installment after Warrior is going to be a very intense and dramatic one. I can’t say much yet, but it’s great.
What is the inspiration behind the concept of this drop?
This series was born out of my own experience of struggling to meet societal standards of beauty and fighting against the influence of the athlete triad. But I realized that my body is a work of art, a testament to my strength and resilience, and a source of pride. It’s time to embrace who I am and celebrate my body, my scars and all. I would like to encourage you to do something.
How do you think this drop stands out from previous works and other NFT drops on the market?
It’s really unique in that it combines a love of conceptual art with landscape photography. I used to focus mainly on landscapes, but I soon realized that there is a lot more to landscape photography than just landscape photography. My ability to create thought-provoking images through modeling is where I think I will stand out as I move forward.
A big thank you to Joanne Hazel for taking the time to share her insights and creative process. Her ability to combine her landscape photography with conceptual art and modeling is truly unique and inspiring. She can’t wait to see where her NFT her art career goes next. Thank you, Joan, for your generosity and for sharing your passion for creating thought-provoking and emotional art.
