ComingSoon Senior Editor Spencer Legacy told Jessica Knight Henry: dedication A portrayal of her grandparents Jessie and Daisy Brown. The film is currently available in 4K, Blu-ray, DVD, and digital.

Spencer Legacy: What does it mean to your family that director JD Dillard wanted to be on the project and reached out early in the process?
Jessica Knight Henry: I think it was very important.Jessie’s story was very closely related to her family and was honestly very personal. but the reason is [of] JD and his family background (his father is a pilot) it meant a lot to him to get us involved and really understand his family’s take on this and taking us on a journey had. So it really meant a lot and really helped develop the relationship. [with] whole dedication team, cast and staff. But it really helped us all feel like family. It means even more when you share your family’s personal stories.
When I spoke with Jonathan Majors, what really stood out about his approach to learning about Jesse and how he wanted to do his legacy justice in the film?
Jonathan is incredibly talented, takes his job seriously, goes deep into the role, and in a way he tries to embody it. We were very fortunate that he got the chance to meet two of Jesse’s brothers very early in the process. So I felt like we had their blessings and the blessings of other people. I made sure I had a letter and dived deep into the letter.
[He] We tried to make sure he was bringing Jesse’s character to life in a real, multi-dimensional way. Even after filming wrapped, I recently discovered a record of Jesse’s draft card that my family had never seen and was able to share it with him, and he was just blown away. The fact that he remembers his handwriting meant a lot to him. So I think the character still means a lot to me even after we wrap up.I appreciate the relationship with him.
What was it like going to the set and watching a movie being shot?
It was really surreal. I had the opportunity to meet several different families and understand how the films are made, but I was completely overwhelmed. But honestly, the design of the set was amazing, given what it takes to see the planes with the big military planes on there. But when I see the movie finished… I was with my nephew recently and he was like, ‘Oh my god, that scene where they’re on the bridge! “It said. And it just so happened that the weather in Georgia was kind of crazy, so it worked out perfectly. was really great.
Your grandmother, Daisy, is so lovingly portrayed by Christina Jackson.
So I say to everyone — the single most important character is dedication It was Daisy’s portrayal that the team had to get right. Along with my grandfather, he was killed when my mother was less than two years old…but with Daisy it was a completely different story.I grew up with her. She’s one of my biggest role model hers and I’m honored to continue her family’s legacy. So it was very important that they got it right. I couldn’t imagine a better actress to come play her grandmother.
I think Christina is someone who has a great deal of emotional intelligence. I saw you wearing it. So it was just a small detail to hear and hear. But more than that, I think it was very important for Daisy to appear in the film. Because Jesse was first, but so was Daisy. She ponders the idea of military spouses and their support and what it means to experience it and what it means for her to be alone to cultivate it in so many ways… A glimpse into her story I’m glad to be able to do it on the screen too.
Devotion received a lot of accolades, especially for their performance in Majors, but what does it mean for millions of people to learn your grandfather’s story?
It’s really hard. I think we always thought Jesse and Tom’s story deserved this kind of admiration, but they are your family and again, we keep the story very close. As for “What do you mean more people know the story?” To make them aware of the inspiration I bring… I’ve been so lucky in my life. dedication come to me and tell me how much it meant to my grandfather, what he did, how he inspired them and now they are pilots or sacrifices Leading this career now for… what he made.
I think this is an important story for our country — especially at a time when things are kind of difficult and divisive. Being able to share that on the world stage is really, really important. they are not suitable. They are very humble people with passion and dreams. I think there are many people who can relate to the feeling of wanting to go out and do what they love.
I think you must have been pretty underwhelmed when you first saw the movie. What was it like for you and your family to see it take place on the big screen?
I cry every time I watch the movie, but being able to accept it in the first place was great. Because it was a lot of emotions and a long journey. It’s not just about filmmaking, but it’s even before that. Of course I have a book dedication It was by Adam Makos and had a lot of time with the Hudner family… it was close to release. At that point, you knew. It’s okay, it’s great. ”
But they did a very good job and are emotional in a good way. It’s cathartic and really inspiring in so many ways. dedication Consumed. But knowing what happens a million times, and knowing history, and that it’s based on historical events. Is beautiful.
Although the film is set in the 1950s, the themes and points are still pervasive and important. Can you talk about the importance of that story being told today?
absolutely.I think there are a lot of different themes. dedicationbut the inspiration and the ability to come from humble beginnings, to be able to dare to dream something big despite whatever challenges you have and the potential to overcome. The idea of leaving a lasting legacy and what it means to us to embrace history and the past. But there are more things that connect us.
So I hope people realize that and that there is a lot of real value in knowing all the individuals who have contributed to our complete history and its fabric. dedication It portrays that very well, and you get to see what they did back then, overcoming conventions and norms to make true brotherhood, this friendship, and the heroes they once were. And they knew it could be better, and they did everything for a country striving to get better. I am happy to have been a part of it and that it continues to live on.
