“Before the pandemic, I started writing some of these songs while on the road…then put them aside as the world shut down, and then in early 2021, from my home in Nashville, a few I attended a week-long virtual songwriting workshop with members of Beck’s incredible gathering of artists,” Lewis said in a statement. “The challenge was to write one song every day for seven days, following Beck’s guidelines. ‘, or ‘Please write a song in a free-form style’. The first song I submitted to the group was “Puppies and Trucks.” ”
Details of the concept behind Joyall:
Joy’All draws on a wealth of sonic inspiration, from soul to ’90s R&B to country and classic singer-songwriter records, but the album’s rich, intimate and warm live sound earned him a Grammy award. It’s the hallmark of an eight-time award-winning producer. Dave Cobb (John Prine, Brandi Carlisle, Chris Stapleton, Jason Isbell) met Jenny while visiting the band Lucius at RCA Studio A in Nashville. A natural kinship developed between the two, and Jenny, after hoarding demos on her iPhone, texted Dave asking him to produce a new album.
“Dave works fast so I had his amazing house band (Nate Smith, Brian Allen, Cobb on guitar, and me on acoustic guitar and vocals) play live on the floor and finish most of the record in a matter of weeks. Jess Wolfe returned to the studio to provide background vocals on the record, after which Greg Reese and Jon Brion brought pedal steel, B-bender guitar and chamberlinn back to LA respectively. ”
